REBUILT 390 V8, CORRECT ONYX BLACK, TAKE THE FAMILY, GREAT LOOKING CAR!
Go back and look at the photos of this 1964 Mercury Montclair Marauder again-it's a 4-door, not a 2-door! The sleek styling fooled you, and at this price, it's a heck of a lot of car for the money, regardless of how many doors it has. Add a beefy 390, awesome black-over-red color combination, and it's relative rarity, and this is a slam-dunk at a giveaway price!
First off, you couldn't build this car for twice the asking price, so don't bother nit-picking the little stuff - this car deserves better than that. Instead, look at it as a big, black piece of industrial-strength muscle from an unlikely source. The Marauder was Mercury's top street performer and received slick hardtop styling in addition to some of FoMoCo's most potent engines. Painting it black only enhances the brute-force nature of the car, but it also means that the sheetmetal had better be straight. The black paint (original code A Onyx Black) might be showing some age, but it certainly attracts the eye when you roll into the fairgrounds and shines up well. Chrome and stainless trim is equally good, with all of it intact, including those cool little hash marks on the front fenders and the wonderfully intricate grille. Impala guys might be a little peeved by the triple taillights out back, but somehow this Merc looks bigger and broader of shoulder than the Imp, cutting an impressive swath through the crowds of more common cars at shows.
The bright red interior is simply spectacular. Finely detailed back to factory specs, it, too, is this car's original choice. Wide bench seats front and rear provide room for six in surprising comfort, while the Mercury's sharp, crisply detailed door panels remind you that this is an upscale car. The instrument panel still has some jet-age whimsy to it, with a wide speedometer up top and four instrument pods underneath, plus a wide band of shiny trim to house all the secondary controls. The fat 3-spoke steering wheel isn't stock, of course, but feels great and looks right in the Marauder. The gauges themselves are probably original, and you'll appreciate that the original AM radio is still in the middle of the dash doing its thing. As you'd imagine, the trunk is massive, carrying a full-sized spare tire without compromising cargo capacity in any way.
The 390 cubic inch V8 was recently rebuilt and received an .030 overbore, fresh carburetor, and an upgraded aluminum radiator up front. It starts quickly and easily and settles into the kind of idle that makes folks look twice to see what's making that awesome sound, much of which is due to the custom dual exhaust system with chrome tips. The 3-speed automatic transmission was treated to fresh seals and the original rear end means this is an easy highway cruiser..
Go ahead, look this one over carefully. You and the ten other guys doing the same thing will have to race to the phones, because cars this nice and this affordable just don't last very long. Call now!
