If you grew up during the '70s, you'll be relieved to know that Chevy trucks are finally getting their due for something that we've always known: they're just flat-out cool. Basic and rugged, sure, but also handsome in a leathery, hardened kind of way that is all business. Dressing them up with flames and a growling V8 sure helps, and in the case of this short bed/regular cab 4x4, it shows that there's no way to build an unattractive one. They just ALWAYS look good.

At first glance, this might just look like another nicely done Chevy K-series pickup. But get a little closer-that's not just regular burgundy paint, it also has some subtle ghost flames up front with hot blue licks stretching across the doors. This one also comes from down south, so rust is a complete non-issue here, and even the bed, which is in its natural state, shows no issues outside of some light scuffing. After all, it IS a pickup truck, right? A custom tubular grille, chrome bumpers, and oversized bumper guards give it a flashy look without diluting its heavy-duty attitude.

A gray interior works well with the burgundy paint, and custom diamond-tufted buckets are a cool throwback look to the era when this truck was brand new. A big center console separates the two 1985 S-10 Blazer bucket seats and offers a set of cup holders and hides a third seat. The instrument panel is covered with a cool woodgrain applique that really warms up the interior and surrounds the factory gauges. Matching fabric door panels replace the hard plastic originals, and plush gray carpet is a nice upgrade over the rubber mat that was probably there when it was new. The most notable upgrade is an AM/FM/CD/MP3 player in the original radio's slot at the bottom of the instrument panel and powering speakers in the door panels.

Rebuilt a few years ago, the 305 cubic inch V8 under the hood is everything that's great about the small block Chevy. Topped by a Quadrajet 4-barrel carburetor and an HEI ignition system, it's a torquey, eager partner whether you're on-road or off. A few chrome dress-up items give it a flashy look that helps it live up to the promises made by the bodywork, and it runs superbly, as you'd expect. Inside there's a mild TRW cam that helps build torque, as do the long-tube headers and free-flowing dual exhaust system with glasspack-style mufflers. The chassis is rust-free and offers new shocks on the stock suspension and 4-wheel-drive system. Flashy polished aluminum wheels look great and help offset the weight of the giant 32x11.50x15 BFG All-Terrain radials.
