Before you start reading, please take a few moments to look carefully at this gorgeous 1968 Mustang coupe. At first glance, it might seem like a fairly aggressive resto-mod, but upon closer inspection, it's actually beautifully finished and well-detailed with a few upgrades that make it one of the most sophisticated and exceptional pony cars we've ever seen. Yeah, it's every bit as nice as it looks.

The anthracite gray bodywork is your first clue that this is no garden-variety Mustang. There was nothing like this color available on the Ford color charts in 1968-the depth and shine are simply spectacular. That sophisticated look is enhanced by the impressive finish, which was clearly done by guys at the very top of their game, because the sheetmetal is beyond impressive. Seriously, Mustang coupes never get the kind of attention that obviously went into this build. No modifications, no alterations, just impeccable work that lines up just right and looks amazing. The billet grille insert is just about the only exterior modification, and it really cleans up the front end, while the rest of the chrome is the way the factory intended, but ever so much nicer. In case you can't tell, we're very ... Please ask for the full description.

In case you can't tell, we're very impressed by this pony.

Inside, the same kind of sophistication is evident everywhere you look. Custom front buckets wear custom two-tone upholstery with the rear bench finished to match so it all looks very OEM in execution. Gorgeous door panels are a great display of a modern look being at-home in a vintage car, and there's a custom Grant wheel to enhance the feel. Leather has been wrapped around that wheel, plus the dash and rear package shelf, giving the Mustang a very upscale look and feel. Factory instruments with bright markings and crystal clear lenses look spectacular and surprisingly up-to-date in the 35-year-old coupe, and with an AM/FM/CD stereo, the soundtrack is modern, too. Pony floor mats complement a correct plaid trunk mat.

The 289 cubic inch V8 under the hood carries a Cobra dress-up kit so it looks like it's straight out of the '60s. Snarling the way only a well-tuned small block can, it cackles to life easily and runs superbly thanks to an aluminum intake, 4-barrel carb, and a set of chrome long-tube headers that help the little V8 make big torque. Ford Blue paint on the engine itself makes things really pop in the satin black engine bay, and there's almost nothing under the hood that hasn't been restored or replaced with a brand-new piece. Linked to a C4 3-speed automatic and a 9-inch, it's happy to cruise gently when you're relaxing, but hammer the throttle and the quick-witted transmission responds with a quick downshift and a spectacular soundtrack. The exhaust system is new with Flowmaster mufflers, so it has that great V8 Mustang sound and predatory idle, while the rest of the chassis is clean and solid, so no worries about future issues. Handsome 17-inch wheels give it a high-tech look and wear 205/40/17 front and 245/45/17 rear Nexen radials.

Beautiful and fast, this coupe combines subtle upgrades with all the features that make early Mustangs perennial favorites. Call today!
