At the intersection of street rods and race cars, you'll find this 1965 Shelby Cobra replica. Beautifully crafted and full of tricks like a rod, but with a thundering small block V8 and a race-ready suspension, it's a track-day weapon, too. And you'd better like orange, because this snake takes no prisoners.
The Classic Roadsters Cobra kit takes a few liberties with the original Cobra's specs, all in the name of comfort. With four more inches in the wheelbase, two extra inches in width, and doors that are six inches longer than the stocker, it's far, far easier to get comfortable inside. But the changes are not immediately apparent unless there's a stock Cobra nearby, and honestly, at this point does it even matter? With that brilliant orange paint, nobody's going to mistake it for an original anyway. However, it does look fantastic and the look appeals to almost everyone who sees it, and the extras on this car make it something special. Dig the twin roll hoops behind the passenger compartment, the white racing stripes with black outlines, and the burly side pipes that sound like Richard Wagner on an all-night bender.

Description
The street rod twist becomes more apparent inside. Hit the button and the doors pop open thanks to hidden solenoids. Low-back buckets look authentic but offer more bolstering for comfort and support, and it's impossible to miss the speakers for the thundering stereo system hidden inside (more on that in a moment). A fat leather-wrapped billet wheel makes no pretense to looking correct, and the padded dash offers a full array of white-faced gauges from Classic Instruments. All the switchgear is highlighted by orange ambient lighting, along with a matching orange knob for the Tremec TKO 5-speed gearbox. Unlike many Cobra replicas, this one offers heat and defrost and there are custom engraved labels on the dash, doors, and kill switch. Now about that stereo: it's anchored by an AM/FM/CD head unit in the dash augmented by an 1100-watt amplifier in the trunk. Custom speakers in the bulkhead behind the seats include a thumping subwoofer and it delivers enough power to overcome the side pipes with crystal clarity. The trunk also includes a set of courtesy lights, a full carpet set, and a rear-mounted battery for improved weight distribution.
Horsepower is a non-issue thanks to a built 351 Windsor V8 that dynos at 375 horsepower and an equal amount of torque. In a lightweight Cobra, performance is impressive and the sound is even better. Dressed in full Cobra regalia with matching orange highlights, the engine bay is purposeful and functional, with good service access. The engine springs to life easily thanks to an Edelbrock intake and MSD ignition system, ceramic-coated headers manage the exhaust. Tubular front A-arms with coil-overs and rack-and-pinion steering make it corner like it's on rails, while a robust 8.8-inch rear axle hangs on Mustang-style trailing arms. There's a disc brake at all four corners and the wheels are gorgeous Halibrand-style alloys with semi-polished centers that puts a new spin on a vintage look. The tires are right-sized 235/60/15 front and 275/60/15 rear Cooper Cobras that seem quite appropriate.
Complete with goodies like a folding convertible top (some assembly required) and a matching car cover, this Cobra was clearly built with love. If you like the combination of wicked performance and street rod showmanship, then this is the 2-seater for you. Call today!
