BREAK THE COBRA TREND IN THIS ONE, 383 STROKER, C4 SUSPENSION, LIGHT & POWERFUL!
Anglo-American hybrids are nothing new, and a decade before Carroll Shelby put a Ford V8 in an AC Ace, Brian Lister put an aerodynamic aluminum body around a Corvette chassis, creating the Lister Corvette. It never quite lived up to its promise on the track, but man, is it gorgeous! This modern tribute to the Lister Corvette wraps a fiberglass body around a tube chassis and C4 Corvette mechanicals and the results are simply stunning.
The curves on this car are simply incredible, a product of the old-school design philosophy that if it looks right, it'll work right. Frank Costin should get credit for the design, which has been nipped and tucked a bit, stretched here and there, but overall looks like a rock star. The silver paint glows and really shows off the bulging fenders and nipped waistline and the black racing stripe is a Lister look that goes back to the '50s. You can't really tell from the photos, but this is a little car, as if the body was stretched tight over the mechanicals and a minimum of ornamentation really emphasizes the sleek shape. Finish quality is impressive and it's so smooth that you'll need to rap your knuckles against its skin to realize it's not aluminum. Covered headlights, a chrome windshield, and those cool little taillights make it look very European, although the side pipes are pure USA horsepower.
The interior is built to race with bucket seats that blend into the bodywork and integrate with the built-in roll cage, making it feel solid and secure from behind the wheel. The upholstery is in excellent condition, wrapping around not only the seats but the transmission tunnel. Minimalist door panels are all you need, especially with the door bars reinforcing the tub, and the windshield rakes back for an awesome roadster feel. The gauges and steering wheel are vintage-looking and the T-handle shifter looks like a manual but is linked to a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission. No radio, no heater, no windows, no top, but that's entirely the point and the Cobra guys don't seem to mind. There's actually a decent-sized trunk with a fuel cell and remote-mounted battery, which also helps weight distribution for improved handling.
And while handling is this car's forte, there's actually plenty of blasting powder under the hood in the form of a 383 cubic inch small block Chevy V8. With a Holley 4-barrel and Edelbrock intake, it makes somewhere north of 500 horsepower and it's set way back in the chassis to keep the mass centered between the axles. Braided stainless steel hoses and fittings give it a race-ready look and those long-tube headers and side pipes are like sculpture and sound like an 8-cylinder symphony. A fabricated tube chassis is rigid and provides a fantastic foundation for the fully independent C4 Corvette suspension that uses coil-over shocks up front and a fiberglass transverse leaf spring in back. Four-wheel disc brakes are also Corvette-sourced, so they're incredibly powerful in a vehicle that weighs 1000 pounds less than a 'Vette and 16-inch wheels are all you need. Those gorgeous wheels are Halibrand replicas with spinners and now carry 225/50/16 front and 255/55/16 performance radials.
