The split window was gone, but the 1964 Corvettes were better in almost every way than their first-year siblings. Cars like this L75 coupe, which features its numbers-matching 327/300 engine, are also bargains compared to the split-windows or the big blocks that would come later, and still drive every bit as well and look just as stunning.
Ermine White is this car's original color, and few cars wear simple white as well as the Sting Ray. It seems to show off the amazing shape, which is arguably one of the finest designs to ever come out of General Motors, and stays in the background so the fiberglass does all the talking. Very well restored, this lovely coupe shows off fantastic bodywork, sharp details, and a surface that's surely better than new in every way. Gaps are excellent all around, the hood fits flush, and the headlight doors swivel into place effortlessly and line up like they should. It also offers impressive workmanship on the chrome, with bumpers that fit flush to the bodywork and show no waves or grinding marks, beautiful stainless trim, and that distinctive rear window is crystal clear. The equally nice interior is correct code 490 blue buckets. It's so dark that it almost looks black, and the combination of white on blue is classic yet enough out-of-the-ordinary to get some extra attention at shows. Seats, carpets, door panels, and headliner were all restored and show minimal signs of use, with only the driver's seat exhibiting any comfort marks at all. The lovely woodgrained steering wheel warms up the business-like cockpit, and the brightly finished gauges remain in excellent condition with crisp markings. A very unusual AM/FM radio with its unique vertical orientation remains in the center stack and feeds a pair of speakers in a custom enclosure in the parcel area. Corvette logo floor mats are a near-perfect match for the carpets themselves, and the bright red reflectors on the doors add a dash of color that's very welcome.
The engine is the original, numbers-matching L75 327/300, which was a step up from the base model and delivers impressive performance. Rebuilt and detailed, it shows extremely well and runs even better, with quick starting and a great V8 snarl from the twin pipes out back. Originality was the name of the game, so it retains pieces like the stock air cleaner, ignition system shrouds, and ram's horn exhaust manifolds, which have been coated to look like cast iron but they'll never rust. Finned aluminum valve covers proudly show off Chevy's top-of-the-line machine, and it drives as well as you'd hope with great torque and a willingness to rev. Thanks to the 4-speed manual transmission, this 'Vette is playful when the road starts to twist, and even though it's approaching 50 years old, this car can dance! Surely some of the credit must go to the modern 205/75/15 Goodyears, which are mounted on a set of Rallys that look great against Ermine White.
Correct, numbers-matching mid-year Corvettes are always going to be hot collectables, so invest now and enjoy the ride to the top with this beautiful '64. Call today!
