1970 was a banner year for Chevelles, with no fewer than five big block engine options, two SS packages, and a long, long list of options. This cool 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS454 tribute is a very convincing build that now carries a 454 cubic inch big block which delivers the performance that made these cars legendary, as well as a look that still turns heads today.

Finished in code 19 Tuxedo Black, there are few other predators on the road as potent as the 1970 Chevelle. The white SS stripes and cowl-induction hood certainly help reinforce that image, and when you're going to attract this much attention, it's always smart to do it right. Fortunately, this car was rebuilt from the ground up with paint that was done not too long ago, and today it is straight, solid, and shiny. Workmanship is quite good throughout, with straight panels, good gaps, and a great finish on the two-stage urethane that will stand out anywhere you go. It's easy to understand why they changed the color, since the original code was 63 Desert Sand, and that also makes it easy to see just how thorough the repaint really was. It also carries all the correct SS gear, including the blacked-out front grille, SS bumper insert, hood pins, and badges on the front fenders. It's far from subtle, even with the low-key color, and everyone knows that a big block 1970 Chevelle is an apex predator on the street.

The Chevelle's interior counts as one of the triumphs of 1970s General Motors design. The bucket seats have been reupholstered using authentic seat covers in the original patterns, and the back seat has been restored to match. There are a few signs of use over the years, but overall it looks quite good. Matching black carpets are the right pile and weave, and the door panels are proper SS pieces. That's a correct dash, full of factory gauges, and the markings are bright and crisp. A Hurst shifter with cue ball knob manages the 4-speed manual and there's a center console to really dress the car up nicely. This SS also offers an original AM radio, so the dash hasn't been hacked up to make a modern fit and you could do an upgrade pretty easily. The trunk is clean but unfinished, wearing factory-style spatter paint that could be taken to the next level with a mat set; an easy and inexpensive upgrade.

Engine choices were confusing in 1970, but it's all academic now, as a rebuilt 1973-vintage 454 was installed in the original engine's place. Whatever the specifics, the stout big block still delivers that insane wallop of torque when you step on the loud pedal, a fantastic soundtrack, and looks intimidating under the hood. It's wearing LS5 decals, and that's probably a close approximation to this torque factory's specs, including a big Holley up top, Edelbrock intake manifold, MSD ignition, and a correct open-element air cleaner up top. It starts easily and pulls like a freight train, with 4-speed manual clicking off precise shifts without blinking at the engine's prodigious output. Stock exhaust manifolds ensure that it's user-friendly and reduce leaks, while feeding a rumbling Flowmaster dual exhaust system with correct tips. The chassis isn't detailed for show but it's obviously very clean, and the whole package sits on SS wheels wearing fat 215/70/14 front and 245/60/15 rear BFGoodrich T/A radials for a perfect street-fighter stance.

With a beautiful restoration, this potent Chevelle has just the right mix of show and go that's a blast to drive. Call today!
