FRESH FRAME-OFF RESTO, STRONG 398 HP, 400 V8, TRI-POWER, 4-SPEED, 1 MEAN GOAT!!
The GTO is the cornerstone of the muscle car movement and by 1967, it was the car to beat if you wanted any credibility on the street. This awesome GTO 2-door post coupe offers a fresh (2014) frame-off restoration to a very high standard, yet still retains the kind of hardware that makes it deal for the local cruise scene. In short, if you want a clean, solid, no-issues GTO to drive and show, this is it.
The handsome, sophisticated pewter paint job gives this GTO the kind of understated performance look on which Pontiac thrived in the 1960s. It's not this car's original color (that would be Royal Blue) but it gives the Goat a unique look that's very period-correct and nobody except maybe a Pontiac head judge is going to complain. Aside from the hood, it carries all its factory-issued body panels, including the quarters, so you know it's been in a good climate all its life. A black pinstripe sets off the gentle curves of the GTO, particularly in back where the dramatic flying buttress C-pillars come down to meet the quarter panels, and it carries all the requisite GTO emblems and badges. The chrome and stainless was also restored and/or replaced to work with the gorgeous new paint and it give this car a highly polished, quality look.
The restored black bucket seat interior looks pretty much the way the factory intended following all the work that was done. Reproduction seat covers capture the tailored look that made Pontiacs of this era so special, and there are fresh door panels and new carpets to make it look like new. The wood-rimmed wheel and handsome center console give it the sporting European feel that the GTO was trying to emulate, and that Hurst T-handle shifter is linked to a 4-speed manual gearbox, the only transmission you want in your hi-performance Goat. The instruments appear to be original and in good condition, but if we have to pick nits, they only stand out because everything else is so beautifully done. The original AM radio remains in the dash, and while it's light on options, it certainly isn't lacking for style. The big trunk shows no signs of major surgery and carries a fresh mat and a space-saver spare with jack.
Highly correct and quite potent, the 400 cubic inch V8 features Tri-Power induction, Pontiac's signature setup that's made even more impressive with the ram-air setup. There were no "matching numbers" in 1967 Pontiacs, but this is the car's original powerplant and it's definitely been built. There's a steel crank and rods inside, forged pistons, and a healthy cam to make it jump. The little chrome air cleaners are part of the package, and matching chrome valve covers suggest that the Pontiac guys knew that their buyers would be showing off under the hood. earing proper Pontiac Turquoise engine enamel, it's super sanitary and nicely detailed, right down to reproduction tower hose clamps and the original distributor which now has electronic guts inside. Custom headers and a snarling dual exhaust system with X-pipe help round out this very healthy Poncho, which puts out a dyno-verified 398 horsepower at the rear wheels. That's STOUT! The 4-speed grabs the gears and the original rear end is full of 3.55 gears that make the most of the substantial torque curve. Period-looking 15-inch wheels wear staggered 225/70/15 front and 275/60/15 rear radials that totally fill the wheel wells.
Extremely well-crafted and insanely fast, this GTO is one car that truly lives up to the legend. It's built with an eye towards authenticity, but the performance inside is quite impressive. Call today!
