Not only is this double the cylinders and more than double the displacement you got from VW in 1968, but also this aluminum block doesn't give a large weight penalty. And this one now even has a four-barrel carburetor on top. It makes for a solid running package. The large aluminum radiator shows that this water-cooled conversion has the right support. Plus, there are also features like a Pertronix Flamethrower coil and an Optima Yellow top battery. The added power is firmly under your control with the four-speed manual transmission that was overhauled in 2017. And the standard VW suspension handles it all quite well. So while you still won't be taking this to the drag races, you will be quite happy the next time you go camping anywhere there are hills.
