This 1979 Camaro Z/28 is another spectacular survivor that's 98% original and shows just 8562 original miles, and no, that's not a misprint. Incredibly well-preserved in every way, it has had only the tires and battery replaced over the past 35 years. The new benchmark for 1979 Camaros, this is as close to new as you're going to find.

The best thing about survivors is that they remind us how cars really where back in the day. Paint quality is quite good and the decals are still vivid and well-adhered to the bodywork. All the panels line up just where the GM factory workers put them and aside from being waxed over the years, that shine is what you got when your new Camaro rolled off the transport truck at the dealership. You'll note that things like the urethane front air dam hasn't been scuffed on steep driveways and the rear bumper shows exactly zero stress cracks. Cars like this also remind us that new doesn't necessarily equal perfect, as you can see from the slightly different color of the nose cone and the minor misalignment of the deck lid spoiler, but that's how the factory did it and it would be a crime to "repair" such originality. Other details like the black grille and light surrounds and tri-color taillights remain in excellent, factory-fresh condition and the blacked-out trim around the rear window hasn't been oxidized by the sun. In short, if you expect your collector car to be as-new, this is one of very few cars that can deliver.

The handsome Camel Sport Cloth interior is a bright, well-detailed place to get down to the serious business of driving, with just a bit of a 1970s vibe. The seats, carpets, door panels, and dash pad are completely original and in virtually new condition with only driver's seat showing any appreciable signs of use. This car is fitted with desirable options like a tilt wheel and a very rare AM/8-track radio, which has to be one of its most unusual features (aside from the ultra-low mileage, of course). The steering wheel is beautifully preserved and the gauges show clear lenses and bright markings, and the tach correctly parks itself at about 1300 RPM when you shut off the engine. Heck, this car is so fresh that even the cigarette lighter has never been used! The trunk is fitted with its original cloth mat as well as a space-saver spare and jack assembly, neither of which have ever been used.

The 350 cubic inch V8 has been driven and exercised enough to keep it completely healthy without disturbing the originality. That's vintage-1979 corporate blue engine enamel on the engine itself, and all the ancillary components are OEM, not replacements. Correct hoses, clamps, and other little parts show off an award-winning engine bay, and it does start and run as only an original car can. Backed by a TH350 3-speed and 3.42 gears in the 10-bolt rear, the Z/28 was a decent performer in 1979, but I'll wager that this car has never seen any kind of rigorous use. The chassis was not undercoated by the dealer, so it's also quite original and authentic, right down to the catalytic converter still doing its job. Unmarked factory alloys were refinished recently and fitted with modern Goodyear radials, but they're perhaps the most noteworthy non-original pieces on the whole car.

We've sold some pretty amazing low-mile 2nd-generation F-bodies lately, and this one trumps them all. Spectacular in every possible way, it's the missing piece of the ultimate Camaro collection. Call today!
