To be honest with you, we don't have any problem selling big block Chevelles. Cars like this 1972 SS396 don't need a lot of advertising and marketing, because it will sell quickly and easily for a good price simply because Chevelles never go out of style. And that all makes sense, because it's a really nice car with great paint, a strong engine, and an awesome look.
Hugger Orange and white stripes pegs the desirability meter when it comes to bowtie performance, and this car is straight enough to show it off with pride. The paint is pretty fresh and has that deep, wet shine that comes from modern two-stage urethane, and it hasn't been driven much since it was completed, either. Nice bodywork emphasizes the crease that runs along the body and makes the fenders look especially aggressive, and you can't have a car like this without a cowl-induction hood. Hard to say if it's a real SS, but at this point it doesn't really matter, does it? You're not looking at this car because it's a concours showpiece. No, you're looking at it because it looks nasty and someone's already done all the hard work for you. There's a proper blacked-out grille up front, SS badges all around, and shiny chrome bumpers that look great against the bright orange paint.
Black buckets, a console, and a few nice options make this Chevelle an easy sell, too. The upholstery appears brand new and uses factory patterns and materials for an authentic look. It also got new door panels and fresh carpets along the way, and the horseshoe shifter will always be the coolest way to pick your gears. The instrument panel gives away the illusion, but only for experts, and a set of white-faced auxiliary gauges was installed under the dash to monitor the vitals. Heavy-duty Chevy-logo floor mats help keep things looking fresh inside and there are big speakers on the rear package shelf just waiting for you to pump some tunes through, selected of course by the brand new AM/FM radio tucked into its factory slot. With this car, you also get a neatly finished trunk with spatter paint, and if you're a stickler for details, then you can inexpensively add a correct mat to finish it off like the factory would have.
GM still called it a 396, but the big block under the hood of this Chevelle is a 402 cubic inch mill that's been rebuilt and nicely detailed to show off. It's pretty tame, so it is very user-friendly on the street, but the Holley carb adds instantaneous throttle response at just about any speed. Chevy Orange paint looks as brilliant as the Hugger Orange body, and a few chrome pieces make it truly shine. Other new parts inclue the alternator, power brake booster and master cylinder, and all the hoses and belts. Cast iron exhaust manifolds control noise and heat better than headers and they seem to be wearing a cast iron coating that will help them look good for years to come. Underneath, there's a proper dual exhaust system that sounds incredible, as well as a quick-shifting TH350 3-speed automatic gearbox and a 10-bolt rear end. For the price, you'll be pleased with how tidy it is underneath and it sits right on Rally wheels and 235/60/15 front and 295/50/15 rear Cooper radials.
