This 1974 Dodge D-100 pickup is a neat blend of old and new, combining traditional Dodge styling cues like the bumblebee stripe with a lot of horsepower to create a vintage sport truck that looks right at home with today's modern iron.
Originally white, they tweaked it a bit and turned it into this awesome black and tan sport truck. Now before you decide that tan isn't exciting enough, take a look at the way this one looks. With the blacked-out panels on the hood, plus the aforementioned bumblebee stripe out back, it has a definite Mopar performance look that will be instantly familiar. In a more modern vein, it has also been subtly de-badged, then given a monochromatic look with a painted front bumper and a smoothie rear roll pan. And just in case you still plan to use this truck, you know, as a truck, it has a fresh spray-in bed liner in black to add to the contrast. The grille is a beautifully restored piece that you just can't find lying around anymore, and offers just the right amount of shine without drawing too much attention. In short, it keeps the familiar pickup truck essence, but cloaks it in muscle car duds for a fresh twist.
The all-black interior is actually this truck's original color and offers a bit of new stuff and a lot of originality. The wide bench seat is obviously new, as are the carpets, but the dash pad remains original and in quite good condition. Door panels modified to handle new speakers still look fantastic, and the instrument panel will look quite familiar to those of you who have owned a Mopar with the Rallye gauge cluster, with an additional oil pressure gauge underneath. And dig that super-cool steering wheel! It also includes factory A/C, which is always nice to see on a pickup of this vintage, and the original Music Master radio is long gone, replaced by a modern AM/FM/CD heat unit that sounds worlds better.
But this truck is more than a poser, it packs genuine heat in the form of a 360 cubic inch high performance engine, decked out in good stuff like an Edelbrock intake topped by a Holley 4-barrel, electronic ignition, and a set of long-tube headers that help build torque. It's not detailed for show, but the important stuff is excellent, so it starts quickly and idles with a muscular rumble from the custom-built dual exhaust. It's backed by a 3-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission feeding the stock rear end, so it drives like a stocker when you're not running hard and still has enough gear to haul the heavy stuff if necessary. The highly original chassis shows off few issues aside from some grime and surface scale, and this pickup handles quite well thanks to a set of oversized sway bars fore and aft. Big 15-inch wheels with blacked-out centers give it a NASCAR truck look and they wear fat 31x10.5-15 General light truck tires that totally stuff the wheel wells.
