Description

RARE '66 DROP TOP, Z-CODE 390 V8, PS, PB, PW, P TOP, SPORTS ROADSTER TONNEAU!

The 1966 Ford Thunderbird is the perfect mix of a distinct single-year design with the lowest production numbers of the fourth-generation. But it's rarity is not why you want in. We know you stopped to look at this droptop because its red-on-red appearance is the true way to present timeless cruising elegance.

It's a classic cruising droptop from that perfect few years where the design somehow was able to blend the square second generation and rounded third generation into an artful and iconic design. And it only gets better when you realize that the 1966 car was given a very distinct front end only used for this year. Also with only 5,049 convertibles produced, it's the rarest of its generation. But the real irresistibility factor comes from the details. The trim around the hood scoop, factory hubcaps, fender skirts, and so much more let you know this is a cherished classic of distinction. It was given a respray later in life, and now this distinctive droptop has even more standout presence rendered in a glossy red. And speaking of shine, these Thunderbirds had brightwork that could be measured in acres, and so it's great to see that this one is complete right down to the wide emblem that reflects in the mirror-like single-piece chrome bumper. And we all love how the rear chrome panel fully frames the dip in the trunk's sheetmetal. Some of our pictures show a very cool red and white tonneau cover that goes over the back seats. Ford was done with the ultra-rare factory Sports Roadster models in '66. Instead, this one offers the versatility of a back seat and a much more reasonable price, but you can still wow your friends with the removable fiberglass cover when you want.

The bright red interior is equally stunning with a beautiful mix of '60s cool design and high-end luxury. When the tonneau cover is off there's plenty of room in back for full-sized adults. But this personal luxury machine is very much geared toward the driver. The gauges have that 60s-cool setup that is so intricate that we know no factory would ever dare try it again in modern times. The ribbon-style speedometer sits on top, and four fashionable individual round pods finish the artful package. The controls for the AM/FM radio and factory air condition (now running modern R134a) are mounted in a center console where the bright surround shows it's clearly yours to command. Plus, the power bucket seats, power folding roof, and power windows make this a total luxury cruiser you control from the comfort of the driver's seat.

The 390 cubic-inch V8 is exactly what you want to see when you lift the hood on this Z-code car. This big block with four-barrel carburetor has all the right power and torque to keep the T-bird cruising effortlessly. The V8 fires up easily and makes a nice sound out of the dual exhaust – it's not like a muscle car, but instead, a confident and mature rumble. It has power steering that's fingertip easy, and a suspension built to glide down the road. Add in the three-speed automatic transmission and front disc brakes, and you've got a stunner that's an easy all-day runner.

Complete with owner's manual, this is a beautiful T-bird with a bold red presentation that has all the right extras – right down to the cool Sports Roadster tonneau. It has all the best distinction to start turning heads this weekend, but to do that, you first need to call today!
