This car is the exact reason the custom car scene is so hot. This 1949 Mercury Eight is a custom build that borrows all the best pieces from cool classics and expertly integrates them onto an iconic lead sled. So look over every inch – from the triple-deuce V8 to the A/C interior – and discover what a true work of automotive art is all about.

You instantly know there was a lot of time and effort in this build from the first impression. It has all the right lead sled elements you expect, like the frenched headlights, shaved door handles, frenched taillights, and dual spotlights. Inches were expertly taken out of the roofline to give this a terrifically sleek profile. And speaking of sleek, the paint has a deep gloss and shine that comes from a professional hand applying it. So you really get to see the creases and curves in the sheetmetal as they glow in the sunshine. The color is Sierra Gold, and is borrowed from the '57 Oldsmobile palette (there's a very good reason for that you'll find out about in a bit.) And that's not the only addition borrowed from a '50s legend. The grille is a chrome king borrowed from a '53 Desoto, and the '55 Oldsmobile hubcaps do a great job of highlighting the whitewalls. Plus, the sweeping side chrome that's also a dividing line for the tan accent color was expertly integrated from a 1953 Buick.

When you open the door, it reveals more of the thoughtfulness that went into the interior. The exterior tan is now dominating with the copper/gold returning as accenting and carpeting. The result is a well-coordinated total package inside and out that you'll love to show off at the car shows. Everything feels clean and fresh, so it's a nice place to spend some time. Plus, you have great features like cold R134a air conditioning and power windows that operate on the classic-style leavers. The vintage steering wheel gives a great view of the clean factory gauges. But as you spot well-integrated upgrades like the air pressure gauge and Dolphin tach, you also know the whole powertrain has been upgraded.

The Olds paint is continued in the smooth engine bay, and it's used to draw attention to the Olds motor. You're looking at a 371 cubic-inch "Golden Rocket" V8. This motor is famous for the triple set of Rochester dual-barrel carburetors that made them instant street kings. And the glasspack-style dual exhaust gives this one a terrific sound. So this legendary lead sled also has legendary V8 power. And since you'll want to show this off everywhere, they made sure this was a true easy driver. You get a newer independent front suspension and a four-link rear end. And the adjustable air ride system means you can get this custom Mercury nice and low where you park it. The full driving package is completed with a three-speed automatic transmission, power steering, and front disc brakes.

A strong-running and award-worthy custom like this doesn't come available very often. So if you want an icon with true distinction, call today!
