It's hard to go wrong with a 1968 Chevrolet Camaro RS/SS, especially when it has been given all the right investments. So with an exceptionally well coordinated total package and big block power, you're looking at desire on wheels.
The shine of the updated factory-correct Matador Red will make your heart race, but this Camaro is more about bad attitude than romance. It shows its aggressive side, with the blacked-out RS grille, white SS stinger stripe, and iconic 17-inch American Racing Torq Thrust wheels. The traditional ducktail out back adds to the SS's attitude, and proper badging remains throughout, including the prized "396" emblems on the front fenders. But before all these features fill you with desire, take some time to look at the fundamentals. Both bumpers are new so they shine like mirrors. The panel fit is quite good. Plus, it's nice to see a stock SS hood with the velocity stacks that are both correct to the '68s and continues the aggressive appearance.
Inside, this coupe continues its out-for-blood attitude with the pristine red vinyl interior. But beneath the bold color is some nice comfort, too. For example, this has the "custom" interior from the factory. That means a more intricate pattern on the bucket seats and door panels. This sea of red is completed by the carpeting, steering wheel, dashboard, and very desirable center console. It all looks and feels fresh and well assembled, so you know there has been the right investments here. The driver gets a full array of original instruments, and just below the AM/FM stereo is a set of auxiliary gauges. This combined with the Hurst cue ball shifter lets you know there's something special under the hood even before you twist the key and hear the motor growl.
The 396 cubic-inch V8 nearly fills every inch under the hood with its big block power. One glance at the highly detailed engine bay, and you'll see there was no expense spared in this very important showpiece. It has been beautifully finished with correct Chevy orange paint on the block, a satin black background, and bright chrome on the air topper as well as the valve covers. If you like this kind of original appearance, then you'll love to know about this SS coupe's factory performance features such as the four-barrel Rochester carburetor. Plus, you can see that maintenance was a priority with the newer belts, hoses, and Accel wires. The result is a total package that fires up like a dream but has a haunting rumble from the dual exhaust. And you get complete control over this big block beast and its thunderous rumble thanks to the four-speed manual transmission. It's an excellent cruiser, too, thanks to features like power steering and power brakes with discs up front. This results in a classic that has an overall aggressive look and sound, but it's quite a nice drive.
