This complete custom-built hot rod takes the small and light P544 body and turns it into a unique and intimidating machine. It starts with the silver and black two-tone paint that has color separation by the red pinstriping. But the custom color doesn't end there. There's also red and blue pinstriping on the hood to make the tall intake look like its breathing fire. This same scheme also continues on the trunk. The coupe looks aggressive even in the details with its hood pins, bumpers removed, frenched taillights, and Cragar-style wheels with knockoff center caps.
Inside there's nothing to get in the way of performance driving. The rear seats have been removed to make way for the roll cage and tubbed rear end. The front seats are modern buckets to keep you planted during serious speed. As the driver, you get the grippy sports steering wheel. There's a full Classic Instruments gauge package in a chrome inlay for a touch of class. But the most important readout, the big SunPro tachometer, sits prominently on top of the dash so you know just exactly when to move the B&M ratchet shifter.
The interior and exterior tell you one thing – this Volvo is all about the engine. This is a Chevrolet 302 cubic-inch V8 that's been specially built for power. While everyone sees that tall air intake poking out of the hood, that's just the tip of the performance iceberg. This monster motor comes with features such as dual Edelbrock four-barrel carburetors, Weiand intake, Edelbrock finned valve covers, aluminum radiator, and polished headers. It not only looks great up front in the engine bay, but this also has an intimidating growl out of the dual rear exhaust pipes. Making sure all this power gets to the road is an automatic transmission with separate fluid cooler. The fuel cell and battery are mounted over the rear wheels to give better traction to the huge 295/50R15 rear tires. There are even disc brakes up front to help corral all this power after your victory.
