This 1961 Chevrolet Impala is one of the best all-around classics out there right now. It has been fully restored to showcase its iconic lines, and it's even been upgraded to be a better cruiser. And you still get to wow everyone every time you open the hood and show off the original V8 still gleaming in the engine bay.
A bubble-top Impala is always in demand because it's premium sporty, and instantly distinctive with the rare skinny c-pillar and wraparound rear window. And this coupe goes to the next level with only has 35 miles on it since a full frame-off restoration. That means better precision gaps than even the St. Louis factory could make. Plus, it has been given the kind of black paint that has so much luster and shine that you'll swear they make black mirrors. And speaking of shine, you can instantly tell there was plenty investment to make sure the wraparound chrome bumpers were looking their best. The dipping "V" that frames the iconic triple taillight package is one of the most intricate forms ever put to sheetmetal – and you can only find this on a '61.
It's hard to argue for a better color combo than a red interior against a black exterior. There was plenty left in the restoration budget to invest heavily in a great period-correct appearance. The red looks great, and the touches of white and brightwork really give this one a premium feeling. Plus, with the black weave in the seats and carpeting, it makes for a great visual transition from the black exterior. You get the original stylized two-spoke steering wheel, which gives you a clear view of the full dash. And as you look at this driver-oriented layout, you're going to spot some nice, but subtle, upgrades. For example, the radio is a retro-style unit that actually houses a modern digital tuner and a USB input for the most modern music players. And the full gauge package has been upgraded for a crisper look and even now includes a tach.
From within the glossy black engine bay, Chevy's bold orange block paint radiates power. But more than just impress with its looks, people will love to know this is the original 283 cubic-inch V8 still under the hood. It inhales deeply through a four-barrel carburetor, and it exhales with authority from the dual exhaust. So between the appearance, sound, and its history, this is a stellar package you'll love to talk about. And since the restoration included rebuilding the motor and Powerglide automatic transmission to original specs, it has the reliability to travel further to show off this coupe. And the undercarriage wasn't left out of the restoration, too. But as you look over all the gloss and stainless components, you might also spot a very nice upgrade. This Impala now has four-wheel disc brakes. Combined with the 18-inch Ridler wheels and low profile Hankook tires, you're looking at a serious improvement in grip.
