VW enthusiasts seem to cherish the early cars for their old-school appeal, and those built before 1967 are especially dear to them. This cute 1966 Beetle is the result of a 3-year restoration of a solid, original car, and with just light use since it was completed, it's a wonderful old-fashioned Bug that is ready to have fun.
It isn't until you park an early Beetle next to a Super Beetle that you see just how much the design changed in its final decade. The early cars have a lighter, smaller look that's just delightful, and you know it's an old Beetle, not just a used one. The red paint is bright and cheerful, ideally suited to the Beetle's demeanor, and while the work was professionally done, a professional color sand and buff would really make it spectacular. Fit and finish are typical of the Beetle, which means it's far better than the price would suggest. The doors fit well and don't need a hard slam, the rounded hood has even gaps, and the engine cover follows the curve of the bodywork; it's obvious this car wasn't restored on a budget. The chrome and trim was also given a freshening, including the bumpers (with accessory guards), running board trim, and body moldings. Please note ... Please ask for the full description.

Please note the small taillights and front marker lights, one of the biggest indicators of an early Beetle, along with the non-vented engine cover. This is a tidy little package.
The simple black interior is the epitome of minimalist design, yet it looks great. The upholstery is durable and fits well, and even though the restoration is a few years old, it shows virtually zero wear. The buckets are comfortable enough for an all-day cruise and you'll quickly learn that there's not much to master in a VW like this. The original steering wheel is covered with a leather wrap, framing the speedometer and accessory fuel gauge. A later AM/FM/CD stereo has been fitted, and it looks a little modern in the old-school Bug but I suspect you'll appreciate the improved sounds when you're bopping down the street. Black carpets and matching vinyl door panels are low-maintenance items that'll look great for years to come, and despite all the black upholstery, it feels spacious inside. The forward-mounted trunk includes more fresh black carpeting as well as a matching spare tire tucked up front.
The 1600 cc flat-four makes all the right VW sounds and provides surprisingly entertaining transportation. Rebuilt about 11,000 miles ago, it's ready to go whenever you are and should be a great travelling partner for, oh, the rest of your life. There's a rebuilt carb up top, correct ignition system components, and even a proper generator making the juice, so the engine bay looks very authentic. The 4-speed manual transmission has that traditional Beetle vague feeling, but you'll master it pretty easily and control efforts are light enough that your grandmother could drive this car regularly. A lot of Beetles have replacement floor pans, but those on this car appear to be original and in remarkably good shape and not hidden under a layer of undercoating, either. Basic wheels with hubcaps emphasize the Beetle's simplicity and wear recent 185/65/15 radials that look right and ride better than the originals.
A great car for the early Beetle fan, this is the very definition of unpretentious motoring. Better yet, it's a ton of fun. Call today!
