BMW just seemed to get the design right in this generation. The well-creased lines of the 3-Series get an added dose of aggression with a full factory aero body kit, a subtle rear spoiler, and special 17-inch alloys. Estoril Blue Metallic is a great factory color. The tone is both bold and sophisticated, and so it just seems like the ideal paring for a speedy M3 convertible. For added distinction, there's a brand new folding roof, and it's done in a darker blue (the power convertible top will need servicing.) This is a later E36, and that means it comes after the factory upgraded the series to the larger 3.2-liter motor. This is believed to be the original motor to the car, and the engine bay has the clean look of an exceptionally respected classic. It's quite stock, and we can only spot upgrades like the bracer bar over the shock towers and an aluminum radiator. These are the kind of things that make it a solid driving classic, and that's exactly what a car like this was meant to do. This generation M3 was terrific at engaging drivers with a nimble feeling from the fully independent suspension, four-wheel power disc brakes, and a peppy performance at all speeds from the 240-horsepower fuel-injected powerplant. The automatic transmission is a bit of a rarity on the M3. These are usually stick shift cars, and instead, this one is much nicer for traffic no matter if you're slowly cruising a beachfront avenue or just commuting to work. And because this is a five-speed unit, it has the right gear ratios for quick kick-downs to performance as well as cruising all-day in overdrive comfort.
