This 1957 Ford Skyliner might be the most outrageous resto-mod we've ever seen. To answer your first question, yes, the top works just like it should, and you can probably sell tickets to watch it in action. To answer your next questions, read on.

At first glance, this looks like a very nicely restored retractable, which are currently some of the hottest '50s cruisers on the market. The bodywork is exceptionally straight, the paint is miles deep, and the classic white over red paint scheme is right out of the Ford catalog. Look closely, though, and you'll see a few notable modifications including lake pipes, fender skirts, and dual antennas on the rear deck, all of which are period accessories that work extremely well on the big convertible. All the original trim remains in place, and the gold anodized insert in the stainless side trim adds a splash of contrast that looks fantastic. The Ford's sweeping fender lines and mild tailfins do a great job of disguising its proportions, with a large rear deck designed to swallow the hardtop whole, a feat that was surely the most amazing thing on four wheels back in the late-50s. All the chrome was restored at great expense, and the glass was given ... Please ask for the full description.

All the chrome was restored at great expense, and the glass was given a light smoke tint just for effect. It works.

The classic red and white interior was reupholstered in the original style, flamboyant and bright and meticulously detailed. Although it was installed in 2002, it still looks brilliant today thanks to careful maintenance, and even the carpets show minimal wear. A/C was added using under-dash vents that are subtle yet effective. The factory power seat is augmented by a set of power windows with armrest-mounted controls, and there's an AM/FM/cassette stereo head unit in the dash. To keep an eye on the warmed-over Thunderbird Special under the hood, a tach was mounted on the steering column and a trio of auxiliary gauges was mounted down low. And the massive trunk has been upholstered in matching red carpet with a custom embroidered top for the luggage bin in the center.

The engine is a correct 292 cubic inch Y-block V8 with an .030 overbore. But perhaps more remarkable is the triple-deuce Edelbrock intake with a progressive linkage and rumbling Flowmaster dual exhaust, which give this heavy cruiser the heart of a muscle car. Custom painted Thunderbird valve covers work with the finned air cleaner assembly, and there's a level of detail under the hood that's usually reserved for show cars. A C2 automatic transmission spins a 9-inch Ford rear, and you'll find a disc brake at all four corners, backed by a modern dual-reservoir master cylinder and power booster. Air shocks allow you to fine-tune the ride height out back, and 195/75/14 whitewall radials have been fitted to the original wheels wearing spinner wheelcovers.

Stock retractables are amazing cars, but this one completely redefines the term jaw-dropper. Beautifully built with upgrades in all the right places, it's the driver's Skyliner. Call today!
