2009 Chevrolet Corvette 2LT

Corvettes have been refined, developed and redesigned for 65 years now. They keep getting faster and better. The C6 was praised as the best Vette ever when it was introduced, and upped the ante even further with the introduction of the LS3 engine. However, 2009 was a rough year for GM, and they only sold about 17,000 Corvettes that year, the lowest number since 1962. This particular one has only been driven 599 miles since delivery, and is one of only 603 ordered in Arctic White this year. So, if you want a pretty rare and unique, essentially new Corvette, at roughly half price, then check this one out.

Tom Peters, Chief designer on the C6, says that he drew inspiration for the design of this car from two places. The '63 Sting Ray coupe, and the YF22 jet fighter. He said the way the rear deck sweeps neatly back to almost a point in the rear recalls the "boattail" on the '63, and that the cockpit roofline looked like a fighter jet. Mission accomplished. The lines of the car are smooth and clean. Dressed in Arctic White, it looks even cleaner. Up front the iconic crossed racing flags lead the way flanked by fixed headlights that look awesome trimmed in white. Removable roof panels can be stored in the large hatch area in their own carry bags if you like for open air motoring. At the rear, the taillights have returned to 4 simple round lights again, just like the early cars, and there are quad chrome exhaust tips peeking out from under the lower valence.

Open the door and check out the modern interior in this car. We don't think you will be reminded of an early car in here. The door panel is artfully sculpted in Cashmere and Black with a nice armrest, power windows, locks, and mirrors as well as high end audio speakers mounted in it. The high back bucket seats power operated, comfortable, supportive and trimmed in leather. The beefy, leather wrapped steering wheel feels good in your hands with paddle shifters for the 6-speed automatic transmission at your fingertips. There are also hands-free controls for both phone and stereo there too. The dash gauges are backlit with the speedo and tach in the center with the engine gauges off to the sides. The center stack has the audio system and controls just above the ventilation controls which include air conditioning. A padded center console is a nice place to rest your arm and the hatch area on this car has a generous amount of room in it.

Open the hood and you will find an LS3 motor that is not even through break-in yet, nestled down in an engine bay that looks brand new. (go figure). This engine makes 430 horsepower and has 424 foot-pounds of torque! Luckily it also has traction control, stability control management, and a 4-wheel anti-lock brake system clamping 4 huge discs to help you keep control of the car even in less than ideal conditions. Power flows back through a 6-speed transaxle and then to the rear wheels through a state-of-the art independent suspension of control arms and a carbon fiber spring. Up front is power rack and pinion steering and a single carbon spring that lowers the center of gravity and reduces weight compared to the old coil springs. The rubber meets the road through 285/35ZR19s in the back and 245/40ZR18s in the front mounted on chrome 5-spoke wheels.
