We love Novas because they pack a lot of power into a lightweight package. Often they're sleepers that can quietly take command, but this 1970 Chevrolet Nova is a bit different. It announces its superiority with its bold paint and big block roar.

This is the kind of drag car that puts its performance credentials out in the open where everyone can see them. There was a clear investment into a modern color and a professional hand applying this electric yellow. The result is a finish that makes you stop and stare. It's so well done even the bumpers are now painted (they're also fiberglass for added weight savings to the already light Nova body.) We now you can see the other modifications from a mile away, but it's worth mentioning the black SS stripes draw attention to the power bulge in the fiberglass cowl hood. The moment you open the door, you understand what kind of a serious speed machine this really is. After all, a full roll cage is not for a timid grocery-getter. Racing buckets with four-point Simpson harnesses replace the 70s stock seats. The driver grabs a Grant GT steering wheel, and you have a custom Auto Meter gauge setup including the big Phantom tach. That last component is essential, because the real fun of this toy comes from running through the B&M shifter. If you were still doubting how serious this car is about getting on the track, just look at the full toggle switch panel for all major components.

When you fire this one up there is a throaty roar of authority from the dual exhaust that only a big block can make. That's why when you lift the hood it will be no surprise to see a mighty 427 cubic-inch V8 filling the engine bay. It has a great presentation with the bold red K&N air filter, yellow plug wires, and finned valve covers, but you know this is more about go than show. That's why the big V8 has been enhanced with performance goodies like a Holley 780 CFM four-barrel carburetor and long-tube headers that feed the side dual exhaust. More than just big power, this setup has been built to stay reliable with features such as the dual electric fans, stainless braided lines, new fuel sender, and new electric fuel pump. The V8 connects to a stout TH400 three-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the Ford 9-inch spooled rear end that's running 3.90 gears for power take-offs. All of this is to make sure that custom rear setup with massive Mickey Thompson tires are always hooking up with the pavement. But when it's time to slow it all down, you'll be glad to have an upgrade to four-wheel disc brakes.
