Vehicle Description
Cool survivors are where the hobby is heading, and this awesome 1965 Plymouth Barracuda is a super-clean V8 performer with lots of documentation and ultra-rare factory A/C. If you're a Mopar guy who digs the unusual, this slick Barracuda deserves a closer look.
The Gold finish on this cool fastback is definitely superior to the factory-issue. Clean living means that there's no rust or rot, and all the sheetmetal is original. The early Barracuda's chiseled details and interesting fastback roofline are unique among the early muscle cars, and there's a growing movement that embraces these cars, especially with their younger brothers spiraling out of sight on the open market. This one offers that irreplaceable patina that only comes with someone washing and waxing the bodywork regularly, as well as the solid sound of the doors closing that no restoration can duplicate. Chrome is very good, and even that incredible piece of trim at the base of the rear window is beautifully preserved.
The preservation continues inside with a matching gold vinyl bucket seat interior. Seats, carpets, and door panels are original, and that should truly shock you, because there's not a split in any of the seams and no notable wear on the high-traffic areas. Heavily optioned with a center console and factory A/C, the interior remains an awesome place to spend some time, and everything works as it should. Even factory air-conditioning units were add-ons in the mid-60s, although Chrysler seems to have done a better job than most at integrating it into the design, so it looks unobtrusive and slick. The original gauges are in outstanding condition, and it's very likely that the mileage shown is authentic. In back, the trunk is equally well-preserved, and comes complete with a jack assembly, matching carpet and a set of the car's original wheels.
The early Barracuda is no slouch in the performance department, either, thanks to the original 273 cubic inch V8. Nicely finished in red, the little V8 makes great sounds and delivers bright performance around town, yet still manages to pull down decent fuel economy thanks to a 2-barrel carburetor. With a light curb weight, the Barracuda slices through traffic with agile handling and a small footprint, and the quick-shifting 3-speed automatic is the perfect travelling partner. There are signs of recent maintenance, including new hoses for the A/C, fresh plug wires, and new belts and hoses, so it's ready to drive and enjoy immediately. Underneath, it's clean and rust-free, including the critical torsion bar pockets and floors, and there's no evidence it has ever been damaged. Four recent 235/60/14 radials have been installed on early Rallye wheels for a great look.
Documentation includes an original build sheet and punch card, and everything lines up like it should. A very cool Barracuda that can only get more desirable in the future. Call now!
