Vehicle Description
No question the 1958 Impala is a landmark automobile, and has rapidly eclipsed its popular Tri-Five siblings in terms of desirability and value. This stunning resto-mod retains everything that was great about the stunning Impala, and adds all the modern conveniences to create what is perhaps the ultimate '50s luxury/performance coupe.
The '58 Impala never looks so good as when it's dressed in black: formal, imposing, and emphasizing the dramatic one-year-only styling. Restored in 2009, they were aiming to create the ultimate '58 with no expense spared on the finish work, so the doors fit extremely well, the gaps are even, and all that glittering trim was painstakingly aligned to give it the look the designers dreamed of in '58. Two-stage urethane creates an impossibly high shine that will look this good for years and years, and all the correct Impala logos were faithfully replaced when it was dry. A small fortune was spent on chrome, from the massive bumpers to the delicate fins atop the front fenders, all of it is shiny, bright, and blemish-free. Very impressive!
Although there's a lot of new stuff under the skin, the interior was restored to factory specifications using red tri-tone upholstery as original. The beautiful door panels feature red anodized inserts, and you'll note that power windows have been neatly integrated so they look OEM. The factory gauges have all been restored, and it's quite likely that the 120 MPH speedometer is no longer adequate for this car. The original manual transmission was swapped for a 700R4 4-speed overdrive, but it's very cleverly hidden under a vintage Hurst shifter complete with a cue ball knob with the 4-speed shift pattern on its face. A/C has been subtly added under the dash, and a modern digital AM/FM/CD stereo has been fitted in the original slot. A third brake light has been fitted, as well as all-new glass throughout, making this as close to a new car as you're going to find.
A 1995 Firebird donated the 350 cubic inch LT-1 currently living under the hood, giving this vintage Imp a new lease on life. All the OEM equipment was retained, including the fuel injection system, so it starts instantly, idles perfectly, and drives like a modern piece. Even the original power steering system was retained, now managing a new front end with tubular A-arms and coilovers from Fat Man Fabrications. That aforementioned 700R4 spins a custom 1-piece driveshaft connected to a Ford 8.8-inch rear end which fits under the Impala like it was born there. Long-tube headers and a beautiful custom 2.5-inch exhaust system give it an impressive sound and 4-wheel discs give it the stopping power of a sports car. For just the right vintage performance look, 15-inch Cragar 390 chrome mags were selected and wrapped in blackwall radials.
This is an extremely impressive '58 Impala that captures not only the best of what was possible at the time, but everything that it could be with just a bit of modern technology. Call today!
