Vehicle Description
You can sum up this 1955 Chevrolet 3100 pickup in just one word: smooth. Glowing white paint, just the right amount of chrome, and a slick TPI small block under the hood give this hauler the right credentials to qualify for the slickest truck we've seen in a long time.
White has always been a popular color on commercial vehicles, but few wear it as well as this stepside pickup. The all-new Task Force pickups had a distinct familial resemblance to the Chevy motorcars that year, and was one of the biggest steps forward in civilizing the utilitarian pickup. As a result, customs like this look especially smooth, thanks to their curve-hugging bumpers, eggcrate grille, and hooded fenders. Much of the original trim was shaved during the build, leaving only the important design elements in place and giving the rest of the truck a more modern look. Workmanship is quite good, with great fit and finish throughout, especially out back where the fully finished white oak bed is a knockout. Great prep gives the paint an ideal surface and even in white, the details tend to stand out as the light plays over the truck's many intricate design elements. Even the massive wrap-around rear window remains in excellent shape and adds to the truck's trick look.
Simple is better inside, where a modern split bench takes the place of the vinyl-covered original. Contrasting blue fabric and matching door panel inserts offer a great look against the white paint. The seat is from a late-model and offers plenty of support and a big center console, so it's practical as well as comfortable, and the carpets are new. Other details include a tilt steering column and wheel from a Chevy passenger car, and a full array of Dakota Digital gauges in the original instrument panel. A hidden AM/FM/CD stereo system with remote provides the entertainment, and a powerful Vintage Air A/C system can chill it like a meat locker inside.
Tuned Port Injection is a great idea in a truck, as it is especially good at making low-end torque. Lifted from a late-model Camaro, along with the entire front clip, the engine starts instantly, idles like a factory-built machine, and makes all the right V8 noises thanks to a pair of Flowmaster mufflers. It's linked to a 700R4 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission and a Camaro rear end full of 3.55 gears, so it's punchy around town and effortless on the highway. Modern rack-and-pinion steering and power disc brakes were part of the package, too, so this truck tracks like a cruise missile on the open road and stops like a sports car. Big 18x8 Camaro-style wheels have been fitted, which are a nice change from the more familiar factory Rallys, and it wears 245/55/18 BFGoodrich tires that fill the wheel wells in appropriate truck style.
Smooth, powerful, fast, and loaded with creature comforts, this is the truck you'll want for your next long-distance haul. Give us a call today!
