Vehicle Description
Center stage is this 1989 Mercedes Benz - 560SL 2-door roadster model 107 painted in a beautiful Smoke Silver, code DB735 over a leather Sina Beige interior. Powered by a trusted and numbers matching 5.6L V-8 cylinder engine and mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission is now for sale. With just over 60000 actual miles and fresh 15 Michelin tires, power steering, power disc fronts and drum rear brakes, power windows, air conditioning, cruise control, an AM/FM radio and a cassette player, a manual convertible top and a pagoda type removable top it doesn't get any better than this.
The 560SL was only produced from 1986 through 1989 model years. With a compression ratio of 9.0:1 Mercedes-Benz reported speeds of 0 to 60 mph in 7.4 seconds and top speeds of 140 mph. Torque for the 560SL is 287lb-ft at an amazing 3500 rpm. Fuel is fed through the respected Bosch fuel injection and the valve train is a SOHC, duplex chain. The suspension was much improved, with a new trailing arm layout. The front suspension is of the double wishbone design and tied together with a stabilizing bar. The rear is a diagonal swing axle, coil springs and large stabilizing bar. Steering is a recirculating bar design, which is fed by a 4-spoke steering wheel. Magazines reported it as being The finest touring road car of its day.
This is a low mileage car that has been well maintained. They also touted that this cruise control design function allowed for a freedom of the sudden throttle inputs and undesired downhill excesses that plagued many other current cruise control systems of the time. The transmission's typographical sensor appropriately added and cut back the throttle effectively as needed. The paint is in good condition and the interior has been well preserved. With 1989 being the last model year for the 560SL, many people will argue that this car represents the last of the true classic Mercedes. And in many ways the epitome of what a touring car is supposed to be. If you are looking for a great looking German roadster, there are few places that you can invest your money.
