Being in this business every day, we see a lot of nice cars. So many, that sometimes you start taking them for granted and fail to appreciate how truly amazing each one is. Even so, sometimes you come across a car that embodies everything that makes this hobby so great. A car that even amongst other really nice cars stands out as a car that YOU would like to own. That's exactly the case with this '67 Chevelle Resto-Mod. If we had to build a 67 Chevelle from scratch and could modify it in any way we wanted we would end up with a car exactly like what you see here. And notice this car isn't numbers matching, it doesn't have a build sheet, and the Protect-O-Plate is long gone . So why the price? Keep reading.
Let's start with the body. It's laser straight, arrow straight, mirror-like - whatever descriptor you want to use this car is it. From every angle it looks better than any '67 Chevelle GM ever built. The bright Red paint is top show quality and will be satisfactory to you no matter how picky you want to be. It's the perfect color for this car and screams muscle car. All the chrome, stainless trim, emblems and rubber on the car is in excellent condition and is what you would expect in this price range. The body gaps and panel fitment is excellent. The undercarriage is very solid and hasn't been cut on. The builder chose not to go the gloss-painted-undercarriage route. After all, this car was meant to drive and be enjoyed - not to sit on a show field with mirrors under it.
The interior was well thought out by the builder and we wouldn't change a thing. Everything is high quality from the wood grain on the dash to all the tiny finned aluminum trim pieces. Dakota Digital was sourced for the gauges and give the car a very modern, high-tech feel. A Grant wood steering wheel is mounted to a Flaming River stainless tilt column for both better ergonomics and functionality. The bucket seats are out of a 2006 Cadillac CTS and surprisingly do not look out of place in this 60's era muscle car. The CTS seats in this car change your entire driving experience versus sitting on the old-school spring loaded 60's seats. Even when the factory buckets are restored to perfect condition they don't hold a candle to these! The driver seat has full functioning power adjustment and could also be heated but the seat heater is not hooked up. In between the seats lays a custom-built center console with a cup holder and two storage compartments. Everything was custom-built and fitted to the car's transmission tunnel perfectly.
At the heart of this beast sits a GM 502 Crate engine with aluminum heads, a March serpentine pulley system, and mass-flow fuel injection system. The fuel injection system on the car wasn't cheap but it did improve fuel mileage (and power) dramatically over the 4 barrel carb set-up. This car was getting about 10-12 mpg with a 4bbl and a four speed and now gets 18-20 mpg thanks to the fuel injection and the addition of a TREMEC TKO 600 5 Speed. It's great when you can improve power, acceleration, and fuel mileage all at once! An Edelbrock aluminum water pump, Griffin aluminum radiator, and Spal dual electric fans help keep the big 502 cool. Exhaust gases are routed from Hooker ceramic-coated headers down to a 3 Inch exhaust system with an X Pipe. The car has never been dynoed but horsepower should be well over 550 and is enough to out-run most cars, even the modern stuff. A brand new Sanden R134 AC Compressor, drier, condenser, with all braided hoses will keep you cool while you're having fun driving this fantastic resto-mod.
The aforementioned Tremec TKO 600 is helped by a Centerforce Clutch and Lakewood scatter sheild. It sends power back to a GM 12 Bolt Posi housing 3.73 gears and tucked right behind that is an all stainless steel gas tank with a GM electric fuel pump. The front suspension has been rebuilt with all new parts including Hotchkis front & rear sway bars, KYB shocks, control arms, and drilled/slotted front brake rotors. A Flaming River close-ratio steering box provides a dramatic improvement in road feel and performance. 17 Inch American Racing wheels wrapped in Goodyear tires keep everything firmly planted to the pavement. This is a well built car that is truly turn-key and ready to go. Buy it and take it on some road trips, maybe the Hot Rod Power tour, to Good Guy's events, or just tuck it away in your garage. You just don't see car's like this very often!
