Sometimes all you want is a simple car with a V8 and timeless good looks. This 1955 Chevy 210 Del Rey is a no-nonsense shoebox Chevy that runs and drives as great as it looks.
Thanks to a complete frame-off restoration in 2004, this great-looking Chevy is fully sorted and ready to cruise. It's the kind of car you'd build yourself, preserving the integrity of the original while adding a small dose of horsepower that makes it a blast to drive. The classic white over turquoise paint scheme looks period-perfect on the simple, clean lines of the '55 Chevy, with just enough metallic in it to make things interesting when you're parked in the sun at a show. Thankfully, all the original trim is intact, with the 210 offering a less ornate look right out of the box and which works extremely well with the mild makeover this car received. All the trim was restored at the same time, and it includes clean 1-piece bumpers and blue dot taillights, which were a popular period accessory.
The interior is a matching two-tone turquoise and white setup that duplicates the original checkered pattern that was all the rage in 1955. Matching side panels are beautifully crafted and all the original hardware is intact, including door handles and garnish moldings. Even the original dash and instrument panel are in place, fully restored, with auxiliary gauges neatly integrated into the original dash where the radio would have been (in 1955, radios were still optional and 210s were often delivered without one). The lone upgrade is the shifter for the 4-speed manual transmission, which gives the car a vintage performance feel that suits it just fine. The spotless trunk appears to have been fully restored and finished, complete with a rubber mat and full-sized spare tire.
The great thing about the small block Chevy's longevity is that you can drop a modern 300 horsepower crate motor under the hood of a vintage shoebox and it fits perfectly. Thanks to that smooth-running V8, this car cruises effortlessly at modern speeds, starts instantly, and parts are plentiful just about anywhere in the country, so long trips are worry-free affairs. Chrome valve covers and an open-element air cleaner dress it up, along with chrome pulleys and a new 12-volt alternator. A big aluminum radiator keeps it cool under the harshest conditions, and the dual exhaust system has a quiet authority that matches the car's demeanor. The chassis is quite clean, with the stock suspension and brakes fully rebuilt, and anyone who says you need to install some aftermarket suspension has clearly never driven a correctly-sorted shoebox. The only real deviation from stock is the 15-inch wheels wearing staggered Michelin radials.
Classic good looks, plenty of power, and enough custom touches to make people look twice, this '55 Chevy is a great way to travel. Call today!
